5 Reasons Why You Need Engagement Photos

September 30, 2022

Hello again! And we are going to talk about engagement photos and why you need them. I absolutely love photographing couples, especially right after they get engaged. There is so much love to be shared and I adore witnessing that love.

I have put together 5 reasons why you need to get these done after you get engaged!

Document your life

Engagement photos are meant to be shared. Whether that’s by sending out save-the-dates or sharing them on social media, engagement photos tell a story of your life. This is the perfect time to get professional photos of you and your fiancé to document who you are now, what you look like, how you act, and what some of your favorites are. That way in a year or so, at your wedding you will get updated photos of yourselves and your life. It’s also great to get anniversary photos each year so you can document your ever-changing lives.

You get to know your photographer and vice versa.

This is the perfect time to get to know your photographer and let them know you. When you book a photographer you don’t know, you want to make sure you vibe well during a session. They will be at your wedding and will be documenting the entire day, so you want to make sure you vibe well!

Practice Makes Perfect

Another great point to getting engagement photos is that it helps with getting you two some camera time. If you aren’t used to being in front of the camera, you might feel stiff and awkward, but fear not, your photographer should be able to make you feel comfortable. But the engagement photos will help you and your partner get to understand how the “picture taking process” works.

Test run for hair and make up

This is a perfect time for ladies to try out their hair and make up artists out. Even if you haven’t chosen a make up and hair stylist for your wedding yet, this is a great time to do some test runs. I have a great article about why it’s important to hire a professional make up artist and you can check it out here.

Date Night!

Did I say Date Night? Yes I did! Getting your engagement session is a big deal. You are going to dress up, potentially get or do your hair and make up, and wear some pretty fancy clothes that you might not wear on a normal day. Pictures are also supposed to be fun! So make it a date night. After having a blast at your session, go out to a nice restaurant or do something else that you enjoy while you’ve put the effort into making yourselves look nice.
